Delete unnecessary words.
Short simple sentences, no semicolons.
One idea per paragraph in three sentences or less.
Clear and relevant subheads, one word is best.
Bullet-like paragraphs of parallel phrases or clauses.
Important information first in page or paragraph.
Transition with “but,” “so,” “and,” “also,” and “because.”
Shorter words like “lie” for “prevaricate” or “recline.”
Avoid circumlocutions like “at a later time” for “later”.
Use the active voice.
We quote heavily rewriting without apology in order to be scanned. Anything in parenthesis is asking to be deleted.
